New! Century Link Internet Basics

To support the FCC’s effort to help Americans improve their lives through the discovery and understanding of high-speed internet services, CenturyLink has launched Internet Basics, a broadband adoption program that targets several of the key barriers to adoption for lower income families by providing affordable high-speed Internet service, affordable personal computers and access to free computer and Internet training programs. Through the program, eligible low- income customers in all of CenturyLink’s local service markets have access to a $9.95 a month high- speed Internet service for a full year, and then continued discounted service for $14.95 per month for an additional four years. Internet Basics also offers a new, Internet-ready netbook computer for $150, as well as free personal training and tools in more than 100 communities nationwide.
New! Connect 2 Compete

Connect 2 Compete is a non-profit organization assigned by the FCC to manage a $4-billion program created to make high-speed Internet access and computers more affordable for mainly low-income Americans. It is aimed at providing qualifying residents with greater access to online job search and educational resources while expanding consumer demand for the online marketplace. The effort should end up stimulating the economy as well. The program is scheduled to run for three years, and those who qualify within that period can take advantage of the special offers for two years. Connect My Louisiana

Connect My Louisiana is a broadband education and awareness initiative for Louisiana. The four-year project consists of developing and distributing educational content to show the benefits of adopting broadband technology in business, education, health care and other aspects of economic activity in Louisiana.

l e d’s s e b d program provides Louisiana small businesses with access to entrepreneurial training and counseling through the state's universities, small business development centers and service providers. s e b d-certified businesses are eligible for the Bonding Assistance Program, qualify for additional guaranty support under the Louisiana Economic Development Corp. Loan Guaranty Program and receive consideration for bidding on selective service or product purchases by state agencies.

LED Louisiana Development Ready Community Program

The Louisiana Development Ready Communities (l d r c) Program encourages and supports selected Louisiana communities to become development ready, competitive and “open for business” by creating and implementing a strategic community and economic development plan. Each community’s plan includes strategies to address education, workforce development, infrastructure, leadership, and marketing/communications. Pilot communities are in the process of implementing their tactics. l e d is moving forward in 2011 to develop a statewide readiness plan for all of Louisiana’s communities.
